Editorial Review

For me Pier Nine is one of those restaurants that makes my heart melt. Being a lover of all things seafood, Pier Nine has obviously caught my attention. But combine the menu with a great view of the Brisbane River and a classy environment (not to mention great service) and you have yourself a winner. Pier Nine is located at Brisbane's dining epicentre on the ground level of Eagle St Pier, basking in the bright sunshine by day or the spectacular city light by night.

Once seated, turn your attention to the menu. (It is always at this point that I envy cows their multiple stomachs). Oysters are a must for starters and there are a variety of local Moreton Bay varieties as well as the larger Kangaroo Island Pacifics, none of which are shucked until ordered to retain that briny goodness. Then it's a tough choice between the in-house smoked salmon with egg cocotte, caper berries, Spanish onion and salmon caviar; or the braised pork belly with scallop sashimi, sticky rice and green chilli jam. Perhaps someone else will order the Moroccan-spiced king prawns so that you might have a nibble. Things get even more difficult once you move on to the mains. Good luck choosing between the roasted Moreton Bay bugs with Japanese coleslaw and ginger chilli caramel, or the Junee lamb back strap. Whatever you choose, another visit will be in order to sample the items you had to forgo the first time.

Donna: I have been to Pier Nine several times for business dinners and find it grossly overrated and over priced. Their "Bucket O Prawns" is a great example. I was disappointed in both the food and the service, the view is the only asset this restaurant has going for it. (18 February 2008)

Martha: Excellent service and a great atmosphere. We went on Valentine's Day and I was even given a rose! The food was very flavoursome, I had the salmon steak, which was awesome! They also do a delicious seafood noodle dish. (28 May 2007)
